As the local government council election in Rivers State approaches, the Rivers Political Elders and Leaders Forum has called on citizens to exercise their civil rights fearlessly. Chief Celestine Omehia, a former Governor of the state, made this appeal during a visit by the group to Governor Siminalayi Fubara in Port Harcourt on Friday.
Omehia emphasized the importance of voter participation in strengthening democracy, encouraging all eligible voters to go to the polls and make their voices heard. He highlighted that voting is a crucial way for residents to contribute to the development of their local communities and ensure accountable leadership.

“We urge all residents to turn out in large numbers to vote in the local government council election. Your vote is your voice, and this election is an opportunity to ensure that your community benefits from the right leadership,” said Omehia.
Governor Fubara, in his response, reassured the electorate that the election would be conducted peacefully, with security measures in place to protect voters and maintain order.
With the election set to take place on Saturday, political leaders are keen to ensure a smooth and inclusive process, urging citizens to remain vigilant and to exercise their civil rights responsibly.
