Senate Calls for Military and Community Partnership to Stop Lakurawa Attacks

Senator Yahaya Abdullahi, representing Kebbi North, brought the issue to the Senate’s attention. In his motion, he highlighted the group’s possession of advanced weaponry and international connections, warning that inaction could lead to the spread of violence across other regions of Nigeria.

“This is not just a localized issue; the threat they pose is reminiscent of the early stages of Boko Haram. If these terrorists are not decisively dealt with, they can spread across other zones,” Abdullahi stated.

Senator Aminu Tambuwal, representing Sokoto South, drew comparisons to a similar incident during his tenure as governor in 2018. At that time, the Lakurawa group was dislodged in a joint military operation. However, their resurgence highlights the evolving nature of insecurity in the region.
