Senator Wamakko Urges Traders to Lower Prices as Naira Strengthens Against Dollar

Senator Aliyu Wamakko, representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, has urged marketers and traders across the country to consider reducing the prices of goods, citing the recent strengthening of the Naira against the US Dollar. He expressed disappointment towards traders who have not adjusted their prices despite the government’s efforts to stabilize the exchange rate, which has seen the Dollar drop from N1,700 to as low as N1,200.

Speaking during a Ramadan breakfast gathering with commissioners and members of academia at his residence in Gawon Nama, Sokoto, Senator Wamakko highlighted the contradiction where traders previously justified price hikes due to high Dollar rates but maintained these elevated prices even as the Naira gained ground.

Acknowledging the challenges faced by citizens, Senator Wamakko appealed to the leadership of traders’ associations, particularly in Sokoto State, to intervene and encourage their members to lower the costs of goods. He emphasized the importance of considering the welfare of citizens and urged traders to contribute to the nation’s development by reducing prices accordingly.
