In a recent development surrounding the Kano gubernatorial election pending before the Supreme Court, Sheikh Dahiru Usman-Bauchi, the leader of Torikatu al-Tijjaniya in Nigeria, has vehemently denied writing a letter to the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Olukayode Ariwoola. The letter, titled ‘REQUEST FOR YOUR PROMPT INTERVENTION OF JUSTICE,’ was reported to have been sent to the CJN’s office a few days ago.
Setting the record straight, Sheikh Usman-Bauchi refuted any connection to the letter, emphasizing that it goes against his principles to comment on political matters that are currently sub judice. Speaking to Vanguard, he stated, “It is not in my character to speak on political matters pending in court. I don’t know about the letter, and it did not emanate from me.”

Adding to the denial, Bashir Dahiru Usman-Bauchi, one of the sons of the Islamic scholar, stated that the letterhead used in the purported letter was forged and not of the type commonly used by his father. He clarified, “The truth of the matter is that the letter did not emanate from Maulana Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi. The letterhead is not the type used by Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi.”

As the controversy surrounding the letter gained momentum, the religious leader urged Nigerians to disregard its content and assured that he has no involvement in the matter. The denial comes at a crucial time as the Supreme Court recently reserved its judgment on the legal dispute over the Kano governorship between Governor Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Yusuf Gawuna.
In light of these developments, it becomes essential to clarify that the reported letter does not have any association with Sheikh Dahiru Usman-Bauchi and that the letterhead used is allegedly forged, according to his son. The controversy underscores the sensitivity of religious leaders involving themselves in political matters, especially those under judicial review.
