Sokoto Approves N15bn for Judges’ Vehicles, Schools Renovation, and Other Key Projects

The Sokoto State Government has approved a substantial N15 billion budget for various key projects aimed at improving educational infrastructure, providing official vehicles for the judiciary, and enhancing public services. The decision was announced following a recent state executive council meeting, where key allocations were outlined.

A significant portion of the approved budget, N788.2 million, will go toward the renovation of Sheikh Gummi Memorial College, while N591.4 million is earmarked for the refurbishment of Hafsatu Ahmadu Bello Model Arabic Secondary School. Sokoto Science College will also receive N433.1 million for renovations. Additional schools included in the renovation plan are Unity Secondary School, Bodinga (N567.5 million), Sani Dingyadi Unity Secondary School, Farfaru (N374.6 million), and Sultan Maccido Institute for Quran and General Studies, which is allocated N1.6 billion.

Government Girls Secondary School, Illela, and Government Secondary School Illela, which were severely impacted by flooding, will receive a combined N1.9 billion for repairs. Additionally, N710.6 million has been allocated for the restoration of Government Girls College, Sokoto, and Ahmadu Bello Academy, Farfaru will get N105.8 million for similar work.

In line with judicial reforms, N2.4 billion has been approved for the purchase of 22 new jeeps (2024 models) for high court judges and Khadis of the Shari’ah Court of Appeal, aiming to enhance their mobility and official duties.

The council also approved N250 million for the renovation of 25 staff quarters at Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic, Sokoto, and N122 million for the construction of state-of-the-art toilet facilities at the institution. Another N531 million has been allocated for the construction of a new racecourse at Durbawa, set for completion in six months.

The state’s media services are also set to benefit from the recent decisions. The council has approved N926 million for the supply and installation of a new transmitter for Rima FM Sokoto, along with repairs to the 50-kilowatt AM radio antenna. In addition, N80.85 million was allocated for the repair of the 2000-kilowatt generator for the Sokoto State Water Board.

These initiatives reflect the state government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, enhancing judicial operations, and supporting key public institutions across Sokoto.
