Leaders from southern Nigeria have called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, to remain steadfast in his efforts to transform the FCT, despite attempts by political distractors to derail his progress. The appeal was made under the auspices of the Citizens Network for Peace and Development in Nigeria during a press briefing in Abuja.

The group praised President Bola Tinubu’s decision to appoint Wike, describing it as one of the administration’s best decisions. National Coordinator Raphael Okorie highlighted that Wike had achieved more in nine months than his predecessors managed in eight years.

“Wike has done a lot in just nine months. We know that there are people who want to distract him from replicating his sterling performance in Rivers. He is not even bothered about the crisis in Rivers. He is busy with developing Abuja,” Okorie said.

The group emphasized Wike’s significant impact on the FCT’s development, expressing strong support and prayers for his continued success. Okorie also urged Nigerians to be patient with President Tinubu, noting his efforts to fix the economy, restore security, and bring relief to the populace.

The group praised Wike’s accomplishments in infrastructure development and security improvements in the FCT, asserting that Nigeria is on the path to recovery under the Tinubu administration. Okorie pointed out that the country had seen growth in Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) and relative stability in the management of the naira

“Today, we have attained relative and realistic stability in the management of the naira and FDI is growing by the day. The private sector is getting the required support to grow and produce what we consume,” Okorie stated.

The international community’s renewed confidence in Nigeria, he argued, was a testament to the administration’s effective policies. Okorie called on President Tinubu to continue supporting Wike and to disregard those seeking his removal.

“We also call on residents of the FCT to join hands and support Wike to succeed,” he concluded.
