Sports Minister's Office Relocated to Abuja Stadium: Here's Why

In a bold move aimed at fostering sports development in Nigeria, the newly appointed Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, has shifted his office to the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. This decision, revealed by the minister on Thursday, is driven by his determination to closely oversee the numerous sports departments and activities based within the stadium.

Minister Enoh’s decision to relocate his office was inspired by his visit to the stadium on his first day in office. During the visit, he realized that approximately 90 percent of the country’s sports departments, federations’ secretariats, athletes, and footballers are all concentrated within the stadium. To ensure more efficient coordination and vigilant oversight, Minister Enoh believes that it is imperative for his office to be situated at the heart of this sports hub.

To further enhance the consolidation of sports-related activities within the stadium, Minister Enoh has issued a memo to the permanent secretary, directing the relocation of the remaining sports departments to the stadium. This strategic move is expected to streamline operations and promote better synergy among various sports entities.

In addition to improving sports administration, Minister Enoh is committed to extending sports development to regions with limited opportunities. He expressed his desire to nurture raw talent in underserved areas, stating, “I want to see those talents from Ajegunle developed into elite sportsmen. I want to provide, like, a basketball court for those in the hinterland and others.” By providing resources to support growth in local environments, Minister Enoh aims to uncover and nurture hidden sporting gems.
