Strange Illness Kills Six Students at Kebbi University

A mysterious illness has claimed the lives of six students at Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero (KSUSTA), sparking fear among students and staff.

According to sources within the university, four students died last week under unclear circumstances, while two others passed away over the weekend. One of the victims reportedly fell ill overnight before succumbing to the illness.

The cause of the illness remains unknown, but concerns have grown following a recent visit by World Health Organization (WHO) officials, who were at the university for an awareness campaign on meningitis. However, there is no confirmation yet on whether meningitis is linked to the deaths.

The university’s registrar, Maimaru Alhaji Tilli, confirmed the deaths, stating that investigations are ongoing. He also mentioned that the Ministry of Health has advised the school to decongest student hostels as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) has urged the university management to temporarily close the institution to prevent more fatalities. The Commissioner for Higher Education, Isah Abubakar Tunga, has been formally contacted for further guidance.

Health officials are expected to conduct tests and assessments to determine the source of the illness and implement necessary measures to protect students and staff.
