The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is reportedly eyeing Frenchman Herve Renard as a potential replacement for Jose Peseiro as the new coach of the Super Eagles. However, Nigeria faces competition from Poland, South Korea, Cameroon, and Morocco in securing the services of the 55-year-old former manager of Zambia and Ivory Coast.
Peseiro vacated his position as Super Eagles coach in February after guiding Nigeria to a second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast. Following his departure, former international Finidi George took charge of the team on an interim basis for Nigeria’s friendly matches against Ghana and Mali last week, with support from assistant coaches Emmanuel Amunike, Michael Nsien, and Ndubuisi Egbo.

Despite considering domestic options, the NFF remains open to appointing a foreign coach for the national team, potentially opening the door for Renard to secure the Super Eagles job.
Renard, who currently manages the France Women’s team, reportedly aims to transition to coaching a men’s national team for the 2026 World Cup after the conclusion of the 2024 Olympics. Reflecting on his aspirations, Renard expressed his desire for a third World Cup stint at the helm of a men’s team, citing personal motivations for the move.
