De Imperial Philanthropic Family Unveils ₦50 Million Scholarship for Top UTME Students Nationwide

In a bold move to encourage academic excellence and support brilliant young minds, the De Imperial Philanthropic Family has introduced a ₦50 million scholarship initiative for the highest scorers in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). This strategic effort aims to recognize outstanding performance in Nigeria’s most competitive tertiary entrance exam and to reduce the financial burden on deserving students across the country.

The announcement was made at a well-attended event held in Lagos over the weekend, where members of the foundation gathered to reaffirm their commitment to education and youth development. Speaking at the occasion, High Chief Dr. Sir Darlington Nwabunike, the National President of the organization, highlighted the foundation’s mission to alleviate poverty through education by rewarding hard work and brilliance.

Unlike many scholarship schemes, this initiative is entirely community-funded. Every naira allocated to the program comes directly from contributions by members of the philanthropic group, without any government or external financial assistance. This, according to the organizers, underscores their genuine passion for transforming lives through education.

The scholarship is divided into two main categories to ensure a broad reach and targeted impact:

• ₦20 million allocation: Each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will have one top-performing student selected based on JAMB results. These students will each receive a ₦500,000 scholarship, aimed at easing their transition into higher education.
• ₦30 million allocation: This portion is reserved for the 25 highest scorers from Nigeria’s Southeast region, who will each receive a ₦1,000,000 scholarship. This regional emphasis aims to uplift local academic talent and promote development in the area.

To qualify, applicants must have scored over 250 in the UTME. The selection process will be rigorous and transparent, focused entirely on merit. This ensures that only the most deserving candidates benefit, regardless of background or socioeconomic status.
