In a significant development for the residents of Sokoto State, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully restored bulk power supply to the region as of 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 15th. This reassuring news comes following a statement by Mr. Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, confirming the restoration.
The power supply had been disrupted due to an unfortunate fire incident at the Birnin Kebbi Substation that occurred on Thursday night, September 14th. While Sokoto State has seen the return of its power supply through the Talata Mafara Substation, TCN is diligently working to extend this restoration to Kebbi and other affected areas.

Mr. Mbah emphasized the dedication of TCN’s engineering team, including the Managing Director/CEO and the Executive Director of Transmission Service Provider (TSP), who are on-site putting in every effort to reconnect Kebbi and its environs to the grid through another substation. Fortunately, the 150 MVA and 60 MVA power transformers in the substation were unaffected by the fire, allowing engineers to work on transferring load to these transformers.

In addition to rearranging cables, TCN has deployed reinforcement teams from other regions with the necessary materials to expedite the repair work. TCN’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Sule Abdulaziz, expressed deep concern about the incident and pledged to ensure the restoration of bulk power supply to Sokoto State through the Talata Mafara substation. He also committed to collaborating with engineers to temporarily back-feed Kebbi while connecting the 150 MVA power transformer as a permanent solution for bulk power supply in the area.
The people of Sokoto and Kebbi States and their environs have shown patience and understanding during this challenging time, and TCN greatly appreciates their support. The company is fully committed to expediting work at the substation to ensure stable and reliable bulk electricity supply to all the affected areas.
This restoration of power supply is a testament to TCN’s dedication to providing essential services to the Nigerian people and its commitment to overcoming challenges swiftly and effectively.
