Teen Arrested for Kidnapping 3-Year-Old Cousin in Kano

In a disturbing incident, 18-year-old Salisu Adamu from Danbatta Kano has been arrested by the Kano State Police for allegedly orchestrating the kidnapping of his three-year-old cousin, Auwalu Aminu.

The distressing saga unfolded when the child’s father, Mallam Aminu Garba Danbatta, reported the abduction to the police on December 19, 2023. Just five days later, Adamu contacted the family with a hidden number, demanding a ransom of N1 million for the safe release of young Auwalu.

Swift action by Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammed Usaini Gumel, resulted in the arrest of Adamu and the rescue of the child in Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State.

During interrogation, Adamu admitted to acting alone, revealing financial troubles as his motivation. He had planned to use the ransom to settle debts exceeding N100,000, stemming from a failed business venture.

The victim’s father expressed shock and disappointment upon discovering that a family member was behind the abduction. Despite the betrayal, he thanked the Kano State Police for their rapid response in rescuing his son.

Commissioner CP Gumel assured the public of a thorough investigation, emphasizing that Adamu would face legal consequences for his actions.

This alarming incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance within families and the need for communities to unite in ensuring the safety of their members.
