
Former Real Madrid and Brazilian defender Marcelo has weighed in on this year’s Ballon d’Or race, predicting Vinicius Jr. as the likely winner. Speaking after the announcement of the 30-player shortlist, Marcelo backed his former teammate for the prestigious award.
The nominations, unveiled by France Football, include several Real Madrid stars, reflecting the team’s successful 2023-24 season. Players like Vinicius Jr., Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe, Dani Carvajal, Antonio Rudiger, and Federico Valverde were all named, alongside recently retired midfielder Toni Kroos.

Marcelo, when asked about his pick, confidently stated, “Ballon d’Or? I think they will definitely give it to Vinícius Jr. Carvajal, Bellingham, and Kroos played very well too,” as quoted by MadridXtra.
While Vinicius Jr. is one of the top contenders, he will face fierce competition from Manchester City’s standout player, Rodri. The winner of the 2024 Ballon d’Or will be revealed on October 28.
