Three lives were tragically lost today in a devastating collision on the Bruce Highway near Wilson Creek Rest Area at Gumlu, south of Townsville. The incident occurred just after 11 am when a bus carrying 33 passengers collided with a caravan, resulting in a catastrophic accident.
Superintendent Graeme Paine of the Queensland Police confirmed that the victims, all women, succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. The ages of the deceased have not been disclosed pending further investigation.
Emergency services, including Queensland Ambulance and two rescue helicopters, swiftly responded to the scene following reports of the collision. Earlier today, four individuals were transported to hospitals in critical condition, highlighting the severity of the incident.
In response to the crash, the Bruce Highway has been closed in both directions at Gumlu, north of Bowen. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes to avoid substantial delays in the area.
