In a remarkable twist of events, former Aviation minister Femi Fani-Kayode has heaped praise on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, asserting that he has accomplished in just 100 days what the previous Muhammadu Buhari administration struggled with for years. This assertion follows a recent diplomatic breakthrough involving Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

During the tenure of former President Buhari, Nigeria found itself embroiled in a diplomatic feud with the UAE, culminating in the imposition of a visa ban on Nigerians and the suspension of flights between the two nations in October 2022. This contentious issue persisted for an extended period, causing significant disruptions for Nigerian travelers and straining relations between the two countries.

However, recent developments have showcased a remarkable shift in this longstanding issue. The presidency made an announcement, revealing that President Tinubu, during his visit to Abu Dhabi, successfully concluded a historic agreement with the President of the UAE, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. This agreement led to the UAE lifting the visa ban on Nigerian travelers, marking a significant diplomatic breakthrough.

Femi Fani-Kayode, who was previously a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and is now a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), lauded the swift action taken by the current administration. He contrasted this with the protracted negotiations and unsuccessful efforts of the previous government, stating emphatically, “In the last few days, our President has placed Nigeria back at the center-stage of international affairs where she rightly belongs.”

Fani-Kayode also highlighted President Tinubu’s recent achievements on the international stage. This included Nigeria’s successful participation in the G20 summit held in India, which attracted substantial foreign investment. Furthermore, President Tinubu’s visit to the UAE not only resolved the visa ban issue but also addressed concerns related to Emirati funds held at the Central Bank and air travel routes between the two nations.

These accomplishments, achieved within a matter of days, have rekindled hope and confidence in Nigeria’s global standing. Fani-Kayode expressed his pride in the President’s efforts and proclaimed that Nigeria, often referred to as the Giant of Africa, is once again on an upward trajectory.
