Tinubu Condemns Heinous Plateau Attacks, Orders Culprit Arrests

In a swift and decisive response to the heinous attacks that shook Plateau State on Christmas Eve, President Bola Tinubu has strongly condemned the assailants, labeling the acts as barbaric and unjustified. Gunmen targeted over 15 communities in the Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas, leaving a devastating toll of over 115 lives lost.

The attackers, armed and ruthless, not only took lives but set numerous houses ablaze, looted farm produce, and wreaked havoc on the properties of the residents. As the nation grapples with the shock of the tragedy, President Tinubu has issued a directive to security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators.

A statement released by Tinubu’s spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, affirmed the President’s commitment to justice, saying, “President Tinubu directs security agencies to immediately move in, scour every stretch of the zone, and apprehend the culprits.”

Expressing solidarity with the people of Plateau State, President Tinubu has also ordered the immediate mobilization of relief resources for the surviving victims and urged prompt medical treatment for the wounded.

The attacks, which began in Bokkos and spilled into Barkin Ladi, drew condemnation from Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, who described the violence as “barbaric, brutal, and unjustified.” Gyang Bere, the governor’s spokesperson, assured proactive measures to curb ongoing attacks against innocent civilians.

As the situation unfolds, gunfire could still be heard in the region, marking the urgent need for intervention. The area, straddling the dividing line between Nigeria’s predominantly Muslim north and mainly Christian south, has been a focal point for tensions and violence.

Amnesty International, in response to the attacks, criticized the Nigerian authorities, stating that they have been failing to end frequent deadly assaults on rural communities in Plateau state.

President Tinubu, elected in February, has pledged to attract more investment to Nigeria, addressing the persistent security challenges faced by the country.
