3. Egypt
Egypt follows closely, holding a mobile penetration rate of 95%. Data from Datareportal indicates that there are 110.5 million active mobile connections in the country, which has a population of 113.6 million as of January 2024.
4. Kenya
Kenya ranks fourth with 58.7 million mobile subscriptions, reflecting a mobile penetration rate of approximately 116% of its 50.7 million population, as reported by the Communications Authority of Kenya.
5. Ghana
Rounding out the top five, Ghana has 42.3 million active mobile connections. This number represents a mobile penetration rate of 136%, based on the country’s population of 31.1 million, according to data from the National Communications Authority of Ghana.
These statistics highlight the growing significance of mobile technology across Africa, with varying penetration rates and active subscriptions reflecting the region’s digital landscape.
