Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) Successfully Restores Power Supply to Kebbi After Two Weeks of Darkness

In a significant development, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully restored bulk power supply to Birinin Kebbi and its surrounding areas, bringing relief to residents who endured two weeks of total darkness following a fire incident. The announcement was made by Mr. Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi.

According to Mr. Mbah, power supply was reinstated on September 29th, around 9:20 am. TCN’s dedicated team worked tirelessly to ensure the restoration of power to the 150MVA and 60MVA transformers, which fortunately remained unaffected by the fire incident that had plunged the region into darkness.

He also highlighted the commitment of TCN’s Managing Director and CEO, Engr. Sule Abdulazeez, who had pledged to restore bulk power supply within two weeks of the unfortunate incident.

While bulk power supply had already been reinstated to Sokoto through the Kaduna-Zaria-Funtua-Gusau-Talatan Mafara 132KV line on September 15th, TCN’s engineers continued to exert their efforts to extend the restoration to Kebbi State and its environs. Additionally, the team of engineers is actively working on extending the exercise to the 132KV Birinin Kebbi-Sokoto line to accommodate additional load.

To facilitate the restoration process, new cables were brought in and connected to the existing transformers, and reinforcement teams from other TCN regions were deployed to expedite the reconnection work.

Mr. Mbah expressed TCN’s deep appreciation to the electricity customers in Kebbi State and its environs for their understanding and patience during this challenging period. He also extended gratitude to all stakeholders for their understanding, sympathy, support, and prayers throughout the ordeal.

The outage, which lasted for two weeks, was the result of a fire outbreak that engulfed two transformers at TCN’s substation in Birnin Kebbi on September 14th. The restoration of power to the region brings a much-needed respite to residents and businesses in Kebbi and its surrounding areas.
