Troops belonging to the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army have reported the successful neutralization of five terrorists and the liberation of 78 hostages during clearance operations conducted in villages located in Borno.
According to a statement released by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, the troops carried out aggressive clearance patrols on March 22, 2024. These operations targeted six villages where terrorists were hiding with their hostages. The villages cleared by the troops include Ngurusoye, Sabon Gari, Mairamri 1 and 2, Bula Dalo, and Bula Dalo extension.

During the operations, the troops seized a terrorist flag and a mobile phone. They also engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, resulting in the elimination of five terrorists. Additionally, 78 individuals, consisting of 35 women and 43 children, who were being held captive by the terrorists, were successfully rescued.
General Nwachukwu stated that the rescued hostages are currently undergoing preliminary investigation and profiling. He emphasized that the troops are maintaining momentum in Operations Desert Sanity III, which aims to eradicate terrorists and insurgents from the North East region of Nigeria.
