In the latest political developments, former President Donald Trump has issued a challenge to President Joe Biden for televised debates following their Super Tuesday wins. Trump, now a Republican contender, expressed his willingness to engage in debates with Biden on any platform and at any time. The announcement came after Nikki Haley, Trump’s last Republican rival, withdrew from the race.

Taking to his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump emphasized the importance of discussing crucial issues for the benefit of the country. He suggested that the debates could be organized by either the Democratic National Committee or the Commission on Presidential Debates, a body that has overseen such events for the past three decades. However, Trump criticized the Commission, accusing it of being a “subsidiary” of the Democratic party.

Trump, 77, has consistently questioned Biden’s fitness for office, claiming that the 81-year-old president is too old and forgetful for debates. In response, Biden and his campaign have suggested that it is Trump who may be experiencing cognitive decline.

The White House press secretary avoided addressing the potential impact of refusing debates on Biden’s “acuity,” directing the inquiry to the president’s re-election campaign. The Biden campaign did not commit to participating in the proposed debates but encouraged Trump to watch Biden’s upcoming State of the Union address.

Michael Tyler, Biden’s campaign communications director, stated that the debate discussion would take place at an appropriate time in the election cycle. He also invited Trump to watch the State of the Union address, suggesting it as an alternative for those eager to see Biden in primetime.

Trump, who faced criticism for skipping debates with fellow Republicans in the current election cycle, claimed he had nothing to gain from such forums due to his significant lead in the polls. The two rivals, Trump and Biden, engaged in two debates during the 2020 election. The current status of any agreed-upon debates for the upcoming election remains uncertain.
