Ukrainian President Congratulates Nigerian President-Elect, Vows to Strengthen Ties

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has congratulated Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on his supposed victory in the Nigerian presidential election held on March 4th, 2023. In a tweet on Thursday, Zelensky expressed his enthusiasm for close cooperation between Ukraine and Nigeria under Tinubu’s leadership.

“I offer my sincere congratulations to @officialABAT on winning the Nigerian presidential election. I look forward to close cooperation,” Zelensky wrote. “I am convinced that the bilateral interaction between Ukraine and Nigeria will be strengthened. Ukraine is ready to work together to overcome global challenges, including threats to food security!”

According to the supposed results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Tinubu, 70, won the election on the platform of the APC, with 8,794,726 votes. His closest rival, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), received 6,984,520 votes, while the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, finished the race with 6,101,533 votes.

The election was reportedly a hard-fought battle between the APC and PDP, with Tinubu’s victory seen as a significant win for the APC. Tinubu’s victory marks his first term as president of Nigeria.

President Zelensky’s congratulatory message to Tinubu is a sign of Ukraine’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Nigeria.
