The Kebbi State government has undertaken substantial efforts to address the needs of its residents, allocating a significant budget of over N21 billion toward various initiatives aimed at enhancing livelihoods and agricultural productivity. Yakubu Ahmad-BK, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, provided detailed insights into these endeavors during a recent press briefing in Birnin Kebbi.
One of the primary focuses of the government’s expenditure has been on purchasing and distributing palliatives, farm inputs, and providing financial support to the populace. This multi-billion naira investment underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the welfare of its citizens, particularly during times of economic hardship and uncertainty.

Furthermore, in light of the challenges posed by migratory birds to agricultural yields, the government has taken proactive measures to safeguard farmers’ interests. Over 4,000 liters of chemicals have been utilized, and extensive flight hours have been logged to mitigate the impact of these pests on crop production.
The distribution of fertilizers worth N2.6 billion to farmers free of charge signifies the government’s dedication to boosting agricultural productivity and ensuring food security in the state. Additionally, the allocation of N8.5 billion for the procurement of essential agricultural equipment such as solar-powered water pumps, pump conversion kits, power tillers, and motorized sprayers aims to empower farmers and streamline farming operations, thereby reducing costs and increasing efficiency.

In addressing recent criticisms from the opposition regarding the handling of palliatives and the resignation of the chief imam of Birnin Kebbi’s oldest Jumu’at mosque, Ahmad-BK reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to transparency and accountability. He dismissed these criticisms as baseless attempts to score political points, emphasizing the government’s steadfast dedication to serving the best interests of the people.
