WhatsApp to Stop Working on These Phones Starting May 2025

WhatsApp, one of the world’s most widely used messaging platforms with around two billion users globally, will soon stop working on several older iPhone and Android devices.

Meta, WhatsApp’s parent company, announced that beginning May 2025, the app will no longer support certain smartphones due to updates in operating system requirements. This move is aimed at maintaining the app’s security and functionality on newer devices.

For iPhone users, models released in 2013 and 2014 will be affected. These include:

  • iPhone 5s
  • iPhone 6
  • iPhone 6 Plus

Meanwhile, Android phones that cannot update to Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or later will also lose access to WhatsApp. Some of the Android devices affected are:

  • Samsung: Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Ace 3, Galaxy S4 Mini
  • Motorola: Moto G (1st Gen), Razr HD, Moto E 2014
  • HTC: One X, One X+, Desire 500, Desire 601
  • LG: Optimus G, Nexus 4, G2 Mini, L90
  • Sony: Xperia Z, Xperia SP, Xperia T, Xperia V

In a statement, WhatsApp explained that these changes are part of regular updates intended to ensure the app stays secure and compatible with newer technology.

Users of the listed phones are encouraged to upgrade their devices to continue enjoying WhatsApp’s services.
