According to the statement, the World Bank stated, “The additional financing will scale up project activities from the current seven states to eleven additional states and increase the targeted beneficiaries to include out-of-school girls, those who are married, and those who have disabilities.”
One of the pressing issues that this initiative seeks to address is the alarming number of out-of-school children in Nigeria, estimated to be between 12 million to 15 million, a significant proportion of whom are situated in Northern Nigeria. Additionally, the project acknowledges the adverse impact of heightened insecurity around schools in 2020-2021, affecting approximately one million children.

This generous loan from the World Bank demonstrates a commitment to enhancing educational opportunities and empowerment for adolescent girls in Nigeria. By expanding the project’s scope to more states and a broader range of beneficiaries, it is poised to make a substantial positive impact on the lives of these girls, who often face systemic barriers to education and personal development.
In conclusion, this financial support from the World Bank signifies a crucial step towards addressing educational disparities and fostering empowerment among adolescent girls in Nigeria. It is a testament to the international community’s dedication to promoting gender equality and access to quality education.
