Effective from users’ next billing cycle, the monthly subscription fee for the individual plan has risen from N1,100 to N1,700—a 54% jump. Meanwhile, the family plan experienced a sharper increase, moving from N1,700 to N2,800, which represents over a 64% hike.

What YouTube Said About the Price Change

In an official communication to subscribers on April 4, 2025, YouTube stated:

“To continue delivering great service and features, we’re increasing your price to N1,700.00/month. We don’t make these decisions lightly, but this update will allow us to continue to improve YouTube Premium and support the creators and artists you watch on YouTube.”

Price Changes Beyond Nigeria

The pricing update isn’t limited to Nigeria alone. Users in South Africa are also facing new rates:

• Individual Plan: From R71.99 to R81.99/month
• Family Plan: From R119.99 to R149.99/month
• YouTube Music Only: Now R64.99, up from R59.99

In the United States, early adopters of the 2014 Music Key service—now YouTube Premium—are also seeing their first price increase in a decade.
