2025 Hajj: NAHCON Closes Pilgrim Registration, Flags Off Inaugural Flight from Imo

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has officially ended the registration process for the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage, marking a major milestone in its preparation for this year’s spiritual journey to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The registration was concluded on May 2, enabling the Commission to fully channel its resources and logistics towards the safe and smooth transportation of registered pilgrims.

The Commission emphasized that any Hajj payment made after the registration deadline will be refunded accordingly. The early closure, which follows an initial deadline extension initiated by the NAHCON Chairman, Professor Abdullahi Saleh, aims to streamline final arrangements and ensure a seamless travel experience for pilgrims.

According to the Commission, the official airlift of Nigerian pilgrims for the 2025 Hajj will commence on May 9, with the maiden flight taking off from the Sam Mbakwe Airport in Owerri, Imo State. The inaugural event is expected to be graced by the Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, as the Special Guest of Honour, with Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State playing host.

A total of 315 pilgrims from Imo, Abia, and Bayelsa states will board the inaugural flight operated by Air Peace, marking the beginning of a nationwide deployment of apilgrims to Saudi Arabia.

In addition to the Owerri flight, four other aircraft are scheduled to depart on May 9 from different parts of the country. These include Max Air from Bauchi, Flynas flights from Kebbi and Osun (via Lagos), and another flight from Niger State. Collectively, these flights will transport approximately 2,528 pilgrims to Madinah on the first day of operations.

As of the close of registration, a total of 40,671 pilgrims have successfully enrolled for the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage. NAHCON has reiterated its commitment to the welfare and comfort of all participants, assuring them of a coordinated, safe, and spiritually fulfilling experience.
