Rwanda’s head coach, Torsten Spittler, has supported the referee’s decision to disallow Ademola Lookman’s goal during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier match between Rwanda and Nigeria. The match, which took place at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on Tuesday, ended in a 0-0 draw.
Lookman found the back of the net with a header in the 22nd minute, but the Moroccan referee ruled it out. Spittler explained that the decision was due to a foul committed by Nigeria’s Semi Ajayi, who was accused of pushing a Rwandan player during the lead-up to the goal.

“There was a foul leading to the goal, the player (Semi Ajayi) heading to the second post pushed our player,” Spittler explained. He further added that the referee was well-positioned to make the correct call.
Despite the disallowed goal, neither team managed to break the deadlock, resulting in a goalless draw. Both sides continue their quest for qualification in the AFCON 2025 tournament.
