In a heartfelt gesture, LaLiga club Cádiz has reached out with a supportive message to Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali as he faces a race against time for recovery ahead of Nigeria’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) round of 16 clash against Angola on Friday.
Nwabali, selected as the first-choice goalkeeper by Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro at the onset of the tournament, unfortunately sustained an injury during Nigeria’s last-16 triumph over Cameroon. The 27-year-old Chippa United star was substituted in the 80th minute due to a suspected knee injury following a collision with Cameroonian attacker Georges-Kévin N’Koudou.
Recognizing Nwabali’s commendable performances at AFCON, Cádiz took to their official Twitter account in Nigeria to convey their well wishes and admiration for the goalkeeper, referring to him as the ‘GOAT’ (Greatest of All Time) in acknowledgment of his outstanding contributions on the field.
“All the luck in the world for GOAT Nwabali to be recovered for Nigeria’s next round in AFCON,” read the tweet from the official account of Cádiz Club de Fútbol in Nigeria over the weekend.
As Nigeria braces for a crucial showdown against Angola in the AFCON round of 16, the message from Cádiz serves as a testament to the global camaraderie within the world of football. The support not only encourages Nwabali in his recovery efforts but also underscores the unity that transcends borders in the pursuit of excellence in the sport.
We join Cádiz in extending our best wishes to Stanley Nwabali for a swift recovery, anticipating his triumphant return to the pitch and continued success with the Super Eagles in the ongoing AFCON tournament.
