Bassirou Diomaye Faye, a 44-year-old left-wing pan-Africanist, was sworn in as Senegal’s youngest president on Tuesday, marking a historic moment in the nation’s political landscape. Despite never holding elected office before, Faye secured a first-round victory after pledging radical reform, just 10 days following his release from prison.
The inauguration ceremony, held in the new town of Diamniadio near Dakar, was attended by several African leaders, underscoring the significance of Faye’s ascension to power.
