
In a significant legal development, the Federal High Court in Abuja has declared the N800bn 2024 budget signed into law by Rivers State Governor Simi Fubara as illegal. The court ruled that the budget, initially presented to a faction of the state House of Assembly comprising four lawmakers, is null and void.
The presiding judge, James Omotosho, explicitly stated that all actions taken by the four lawmakers in passing the budget are deemed invalid. The court has additionally recognized Martin Amaewhule as the legitimate speaker of the state assembly.
