BREAKING: JAMB Announces 2024 Admission Process, Sets Date for Policy Meeting

The Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the commencement of the 2024 admission process for Nigeria’s tertiary institutions. This pivotal announcement precedes the board’s annual policy meeting, scheduled to convene on Thursday, July 18, 2024, in Abuja, as disclosed in JAMB’s latest bulletin.

Scheduled to be chaired by the Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, the policy meeting will assemble key stakeholders including vice-chancellors of universities, rectors of polytechnics, monotechnics, innovation enterprise institutes, and provosts of colleges of education. Its primary agenda will encompass the approval of guidelines for the 2024 admission exercise, emphasizing minimum admission scores for institutions—clarified as benchmarks rather than cut-off marks.

Integral to the meeting’s agenda will be the review of the previous year’s admission process and the performance metrics from the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Highlighting this year’s event is the introduction of the National Tertiary Admissions’ Performance-Merit Award (NATAP-M Awards), with a notable prize of N500 million for the overall winner and N250 million collectively for other commendable performances.

In adherence to regulatory protocols, JAMB stipulates that no institution may initiate the admission process until after the policy meeting. Decisions made during the meeting, endorsed by the Minister of Education, will serve as the regulatory framework guiding the entirety of the admission process for the year. Institutions found contravening these guidelines will face appropriate sanctions, underscoring the collective commitment to fairness and transparency in the admission process.

The commencement of the 2024 admission process by JAMB signifies a crucial milestone in Nigeria’s educational landscape. With expectations of comprehensive guidelines from the forthcoming policy meeting, stakeholders anticipate an equitable and efficient admission process. The introduction of the NATAP-M Awards further underscores the commitment to meritocracy and excellence in higher education.
