Kebbi State House of Assembly has recently approved an amendment to the Local Government Law of 2008, extending the tenure of elected local government chairmen and councillors from two to three years. This change aims to enhance stability and continuity within local governance, enabling officials to undertake and complete long-term development projects effectively.
In addition to this extension, the Assembly has also passed a bill to establish the Kebbi State Local Government Service Commission. This new commission will replace the existing Kebbi State Local Service Board, which was established under Cap 87 of 1996. The commission will oversee the management of local government staff, ensuring higher standards of professionalism and efficiency in service delivery.
