After nearly two months of unstable electricity, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that full restoration of power in Kebbi State will be completed on or before Thursday, June 19, 2025.
The prolonged blackout was caused by the collapse of critical transmission towers along the Kainji–Birnin Kebbi 330kV line. The affected infrastructure had severely disrupted power distribution in the state, forcing residents and businesses to rely on a limited supply rerouted from Shiroro Power Station in Niger State.
Unfortunately, while reconstruction efforts were ongoing, additional transmission structures around the Shanga axis also suffered collapse, adding more strain to the state’s already fragile electricity supply. This incident deepened concerns about the reliability of Nigeria’s power infrastructure in the northwest region.
Kebbi State has since been operating on significantly reduced power, receiving low voltage supply that could barely sustain basic residential or commercial needs. Many residents have turned to alternative energy sources like generators and solar power to cope with the situation.
However, according to the TCN, the reconstruction of the damaged towers is now in its final phase. Contractors have been working round the clock to meet the new completion date, which is now fixed for June 19. Once completed, this will reconnect Kebbi to the national grid through the Kainji-Birnin Kebbi transmission line, allowing for the restoration of stable and quality electricity supply.

The restoration is expected to bring much-needed relief to households, businesses, and essential services in the state, especially as the energy demand continues to increase during the rainy season.
What to Expect After Power Restoration
- Full reconnection to the national grid
- Improved voltage and quality of electricity
- Reduced dependence on Shiroro supply
- Potential boost in commercial activity and local productivity
The TCN reassures residents that it is committed to strengthening the transmission network and preventing future disruptions.
