BREAKING: Police Arrest 47 Herders for Attacking Kebbi Polytechnic

The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested 47 herders for attacking Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi. The attack, which happened around 3:00 a.m. on February 4, 2025, led to destruction on the school campus and injuries to a staff member.

According to the police spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, a resident of Ruggar Labana, Abubakar Nabande, allegedly conspired with others to break into the polytechnic. The herders, armed with cutlasses and sticks, forced their way through the school fence, bringing over 300 cows onto the campus. They proceeded to the staff quarters, destroying stored hay.

When polytechnic staff and security personnel tried to remove them, the herders became violent. One staff member, Abdullahi Muhammad Idris, was attacked with a cutlass and suffered fractures on his right hand and leg. He is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Birnin Kebbi.

Upon receiving the report, Commissioner of Police Bello M. Sani personally led a team of detectives to the scene for investigation. The police later arrested 47 suspects involved in the attack.

The suspects have been charged to court for prosecution, and the Kebbi State Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to justice and maintaining peace in the state.
