The Nigerian Presidency has unveiled a new Airbus A330 as the official jet for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, replacing the 19-year-old Boeing B737-700(BBJ) that was previously used. This decision comes after an investigation by Nigeria’s Senate, which raised concerns about the safety and cost efficiency of the older aircraft. The Boeing B737-700(BBJ), acquired during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, had faced several issues, including a notable malfunction on a trip to Saudi Arabia.

The acquisition of the Airbus A330 is expected to bring significant savings to the Nigerian government, reducing maintenance and fuel costs that had been running into millions of dollars annually. The new jet was purchased at a price below market value and features advanced technology, a spacious interior, and a sophisticated communications system, making it a modern and efficient replacement.
President Tinubu’s first official trip on the new jet took him from Abuja to Paris, France, on August 19, 2024. This trip marks his fourth visit to France since taking office, highlighting the continued importance of international relations in his administration.
