In a major move for the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), America’s Bay FC has successfully secured the signing of Nigerian international striker Asisat Oshoala from Spanish giants Barcelona. The six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year is set to bring her extensive experience and goal-scoring prowess to the San Jose-based club.
Oshoala, 29, enjoyed a remarkable stint with Barcelona, clinching four Spanish league titles and two Champions League trophies. Her impressive record of 107 goals in 149 appearances underscores her impact on the field. Prior to her time in Spain, Oshoala showcased her skills in the English leagues, representing Liverpool and Arsenal, and also had a spell with Dalian WFC in China.
The General Manager of Bay FC, Lucy Rushton, expressed excitement about the acquisition, stating, “To have the opportunity to add a player of Asisat’s quality, experience, and winning pedigree to our roster is an exciting and important day for the club and the NWSL.”
Oshoala’s international achievements include featuring in three Women’s World Cup tournaments and securing three African Women’s Championship titles with Nigeria.
