In a recent interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, former Senator Sani Shehu, who represented Kaduna Central in the Senate, asserted that former President Muhammadu Buhari is to blame for the current economic challenges in Nigeria. According to Sani, Buhari’s administration fundamentally destroyed the Nigerian economy by failing to implement certain economic policies. He claimed that some of the policies being implemented by President Bola Tinubu, which have contributed to the current economic hardship, should have been enacted by Buhari.
Senator Sani Shehu specifically stated, “The problem we find ourselves today originated, was engineered, fabricated, and sustained by the Buhari administration.” He criticized Buhari for not implementing policies that could have prevented the deterioration of the economy.

Sani acknowledged that Tinubu had been transparent about his intentions during his campaign, especially regarding the removal of subsidies, and asserted that Tinubu did not deceive the Nigerian people. He mentioned that the current economic challenges are a consequence of past mistakes, failures, and neglected actions.
The former senator also commented on the protests against the economic hardship, particularly those related to Tinubu’s policies such as the removal of petrol subsidy and the unification of the forex rate. Sani noted that while the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has the right to protest, the more concerning scenario would be unorganized civil society staging protests.
It’s important to note that these statements reflect Senator Sani Shehu’s perspective, and opinions on political matters can vary widely among individuals and within the public.
