General Requirements for All Applicants
Before applying for any role, applicants must meet the following standard criteria across all agencies:
- Citizenship: Must be a Nigerian by birth.
- Age: Must be between 18 and 35 years old.
- Character: Must be of good behavior and have no criminal convictions.
- Physical Fitness: Candidates must be medically and physically fit. A government hospital medical fitness certificate is required at the screening stage.
- Height Requirements:
- Male applicants: Minimum height of 1.65 meters.
- Female applicants: Minimum height of 1.60 meters.
- Chest Measurement (for males only): Not less than 0.87 meters.
- Financial Record: Must not have been involved in any financial crime or embarrassing activity.
- Computer Literacy: Not compulsory but will be an added advantage.
- One Agency Rule: You can only apply to one of the four agencies. Multiple applications will lead to disqualification.
Educational Requirements by Cadre
1. SSCE / NECO / GCE (O’Level)
Applicants with 5 credits in not more than 2 sittings (including English and Mathematics) can apply for:
- Assistant Cadre (COMPASS 03 & 04)
2. NCE / National Diploma (ND)
Candidates holding NCE or ND from a recognized institution can apply for:
- Assistant Inspector Cadre (COMPASS 06)
3. HND / Bachelor’s Degree (BSc, LLB, BEng, etc.)
Degree holders in relevant disciplines may apply for:
- Assistant Superintendent Cadre I & II (COMPASS 08 & 09)
4. MBBS / Medical Degree
Medical graduates are eligible for:
- Superintendent of Corrections (Medical Officer) – CONMESS 02
5. Master’s Degree
Although not compulsory, a Master’s Degree in any related field provides a competitive advantage during recruitment and placement into senior positions.
Required Documents for Application
- Birth certificate or age declaration
- Certificate of origin
- Original academic certificates (not statements of results)
- National Identification Number (NIN) slip or card
- Recent passport photograph
- Certificate of medical fitness from a government hospital
