In a decisive move against terrorism, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has officially declared 97 individuals wanted for their alleged involvement in terrorism, violent extremism, and secessionist activities posing threats to the nation.

Among the prominent figures listed is Simon Ekpa, the factional leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Major Gen Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed the announcement in Abuja on Friday night, releasing names and photographs of the wanted persons.

The wanted individuals span across various regions of the country, including the North East, North West, North Central, and South-East zones, reflecting the widespread nature of the security challenges faced by Nigeria.

Notably, 43 persons from the North West zone, plagued by banditry and kidnapping, have been declared wanted. These include notorious bandits and terrorists leaders such as Alhaji Shingi, Malindi Yakubu, Boka, and Dogo Gide, among others.



Similarly, in the North East, where the menace of Boko Haram and the Islamic State for West Africa Province (ISWAP) persists, 33 individuals have been identified as wanted terrorists. The list includes notorious commanders like Abu Zaida, Modu Sulum, and Baba Data, illustrating the gravity of the situation in the region.

In the North Central and South East regions, 21 insurgents, militants, and violent criminals have been declared wanted. Notable among them is Simon Ekpa, the factional leader of IPOB, alongside others such as Chika Edoziem, ThankGod Gentle, and Obiemesi Chukwudi.

The Defence Headquarters did not specify any bounty on the wanted persons, indicating a focused effort on apprehending them for justice and to restore peace and security across the affected regions.
