In a startling turn of events, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently made a significant arrest. Kayode Cole, the individual in question, was apprehended for issuing a death threat against the Chairman of the Commission, Ola Olukoyede. The incident, which occurred in the Lugbe axis of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, sent shockwaves through the community and raised concerns about the safety of public officials.
Kayode Cole’s arrest came following his alarming behavior on social media. He made the death threat against EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede through his Instagram handle, “1billionsecretss”. His comment was in response to a story posted by popular Instagram blogger, Instablog9ja, regarding allegations of money laundering within religious sects. Cole’s threat, declaring that Olukoyede would be dead within six months, sparked immediate action from the authorities.

The context of Cole’s threat lies in the backdrop of revelations made by Chairman Olukoyede himself. During a dialogue on ‘Youth, Religion, and the Fight against Corruption’ at the Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, Olukoyede disclosed the Commission’s findings about money laundering activities within religious organizations. According to EFCC investigations, one religious sect was implicated in laundering money for terrorists, while another was found to be protecting a money launderer.
Upon interrogation, Kayode Cole purportedly claimed that his threat was merely an attempt to gain attention, colloquially known as “chasing clout”. However, the severity of his actions warranted swift action from law enforcement agencies. The EFCC announced that Cole would be handed over to the appropriate authority for further investigation and prosecution, emphasizing the gravity of making threats against public officials.
