
Abdullahi Musa Huseini, a popular Kano-based make-up artist known as Amuscap, has been sentenced to six months in prison for Naira abuse during his wedding. The Federal High Court found Huseini guilty of a one-count charge of tampering with the Nigerian currency, an offence punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.
The incident occurred on December 6, 2024, at Ali Jita Event Centre in Kano. Huseini was seen on camera spraying N100,000 in N1000 notes while dancing at his wedding celebration. The charge read: “That you, Abdullahi Musa Huseini, on the 6th day of December, 2024, at Ali Jita Event Centre, Kano, tampered with the sum of N100,000 in 1000-note denomination issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying at the said occasion.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested Huseini after receiving reports of the incident. Their investigation revealed that Huseini intentionally defaced the Naira, despite ongoing public awareness campaigns against such practices. The EFCC has repeatedly warned Nigerians about the consequences of mishandling the Naira, calling it economic sabotage.
Following the trial, Justice S.M. Shuaibu sentenced Huseini to six months in prison without an option of fine, confirming his guilt.
