El-Rufai’s Son Attacks Kaduna Gov After Revelation of Huge Debt

In a recent political skirmish brewing in Kaduna State, Bashir El-Rufai, the son of former governor Nasir El-Rufai, has launched scathing criticism against the current governor, Uba Sani. Accusing Governor Sani of neglecting his responsibilities by consistently residing in Abuja instead of being present in the state, Bashir also lambasted him for surrounding himself with incompetent aides chosen for political favors rather than merit.

Governor Sani, a close associate of Bashir’s father, recently drew attention to the purported financial burden inherited from the previous administration, citing debts totaling $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contractual liabilities, which he claims hamper efforts to pay workers’ salaries. However, Bashir El-Rufai swiftly countered these claims, denouncing them as excuses for poor performance.

In a series of tweets on his X handle (formerly Twitter), Bashir accused the Sani administration of incompetence, contract inflation, and engaging in speculative forex activities. He expressed incredulity at the governor’s reliance on the debt burden narrative to justify what he perceives as a lackluster performance in governance.

“These guys have realized that they are wholly incompetent and the only way to mask the nonsense is to deflect. From a Governor that is always sleeping in Abuja to a litany of incompetent aides that were only rewarded for foolish political reasons,” Bashir El-Rufai wrote.
