The esteemed Emir of Ningi, Alhaji Yunusa Muhammadu Danyaya, has passed away at the age of 88. His death was confirmed by palace officials on Sunday, marking the end of a distinguished era of leadership and service.
Alhaji Danyaya, a first-class traditional ruler, died in Kano after a brief illness, just two days following his return from a medical trip to Saudi Arabia. According to Usman Sule, the Secretary of the Palace, the Emir was receiving treatment at a hospital when he passed away early Sunday morning.

The Bauchi State Government has expressed profound sorrow over the Emir’s death, highlighting his significant contributions to the peace and development of the Ningi Emirate. In a statement, Mukhtar Gidado, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Governor Bala Mohammed, praised the late Emir’s leadership. “Under his guidance, the Emirate experienced considerable advancement. His unwavering commitment to preserving tradition, culture, and Islamic values was evident throughout his reign,” Gidado said.

Governor Bala Mohammed extended his heartfelt condolences to the Emir’s immediate family, the Ningi Emirate Council, and the entire Bauchi State community. The Governor shared, “We mourn this great loss alongside the people of Bauchi State and pray for Allah’s mercy on the departed soul. May Allah grant him eternal peace in Jannatul Firdaus and provide strength to his family and all those affected by his passing.”
The funeral rites for Alhaji Yunusa Muhammadu Danyaya will be held today at 4:00 p.m. at the Ningi Emirate Palace, following Islamic traditions.
Alhaji Danyaya’s career began as a dispenser at Nasaru Dispensary and expanded to include influential roles within the Ningi Emirate Council, the Nigerian Tobacco Company, and the Northern Nigeria Marketing Board. He also played a significant role in various committees, including the National Constitutional Conference and the Vision 2010 Traditional Rulers Sub-committee. His dedication was recognized with the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) award.
Born in 1936, Alhaji Danyaya was installed as the Emir of Ningi in 1978. His leadership was marked by a deep commitment to cultural preservation and community development, leaving a lasting legacy in Bauchi State.
