FCT and Kebbi Experience First Rain of 2024

In a notable weather event, both the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Kebbi state welcomed the first rain of 2024, marking a shift in the prevailing weather conditions. Among the locations in Kebbi, the state capital, Birnin Kebbi, experienced rainfall, adding a refreshing touch to the early morning hours.

Residents of Birnin Kebbi were pleasantly surprised as raindrops started falling around 12:30 am and continued for about 25 minutes, ceasing at 12:55 am. Unlike typical rainstorms, this occurrence was characterized by its gentleness, devoid of lightning, heavy winds, and thunderstorms.

Mrs. Anna Jonah, a resident of Kubwa in the FCT, shared her experience, stating that the unexpected rain brought temporary relief from the recent heat wave. Similar sentiments were echoed by residents in various areas, including Birnin Kebbi, where the rainfall was met with a mix of appreciation and cautious optimism.

Lawal Sale, a resident of Garki in the FCT, noted that the rain in his area was relatively heavy, providing relief from the intense heat witnessed in the preceding days. However, Sale emphasized the need for caution, advising farmers not to rush into planting due to the unpredictability of future rainfall.

As the Nigerian Meteorological Agency had recently presented the 2024 Seasonal Climate Prediction, indicating a late cessation of rain in certain regions, residents in both FCT and Kebbi are keeping a watchful eye on the evolving weather conditions. The unexpected rain has sparked conversations about the need for preparedness and adaptation to the changing climate in these regions.
