The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has made a significant announcement regarding the conclusion of the 2024 recruitment process. In line with the directives from the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), the FFS has set a definitive date for the completion of the recruitment exercise, providing clarity and assurance to applicants eagerly awaiting the outcome.

Assurance from the Minister of Interior

Dr. Olubumi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior and chairman of the Board, has reaffirmed the commitment of the FFS to transparency and efficiency in the recruitment process. Assuring applicants of a fair and impartial selection, Dr. Tunji-Ojo announced that the final list of successful candidates will be published on June 15, 2024.

Transparent Selection Process

In a statement delivered by Ja’afaru Ahmed, the secretary of CDCFIB, emphasis was placed on maintaining transparency throughout the selection process. Applicants were cautioned against engaging with fraudulent entities claiming to expedite the recruitment process in exchange for financial gain. The CDCFIB remains steadfast in its dedication to thwarting such fraudulent activities and ensuring a level playing field for all applicants.

Rigorous Assessment Procedures

Shortlisted candidates will undergo a series of assessments designed to evaluate their suitability for service in the FFS. These assessments include a Computer-based Test (CBT) and Physical Screening/Certificate Verification/Psychometric Evaluation. By adhering to standardized assessment procedures, the FFS aims to identify individuals with the requisite skills, qualifications, and character traits necessary for the demands of firefighting and emergency response.

A total of 118 cases involving erring officers from the four agencies have been reviewed, with appropriate disciplinary measures implemented to address misconduct and uphold organizational standards.

Disciplinary Measures Breakdown

The breakdown of disciplinary cases across the four agencies is as follows:

  • Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS): 48 cases
  • Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS): 21 cases
  • Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC): 37 cases
  • Federal Fire Service: 12 cases

Disciplinary actions range from demotion to dismissal, depending on the severity of the offense and its impact on organizational integrity and public trust.

Strategic Initiatives

The CDCFIB has approved the publication of reviewed guidelines governing appointments, promotion, discipline, and general operations within the paramilitary services. Furthermore, a comprehensive manpower audit is underway to assess staffing levels, skills gaps, and resource allocation across the agencies.
