The agricultural landscape in Nigeria is set to benefit from this subsidy, as illustrated by Minister Kyari’s visits to Kano and Jigawa. He praised the critical role of local production in the agricultural sector, highlighting Jigawa State’s dedication to wheat farming by setting aside 40,000 hectares of land, coming close to the Federal Government’s target of 70,000 hectares for the year.

Minister Kyari clarified that the Federal Government is diligently working to ensure a sufficient supply of seeds to cover the designated 70,000 hectares for wheat farming. This strategic move falls in line with the government’s plan to phase out wheat importation, which has been a significant drain on Nigeria’s foreign reserves.

The primary goal is to safeguard food production and achieve self-sufficiency. The government aims to eliminate the need for seed importation by becoming self-sufficient through local production in the next 4-5 years. This strategy not only enhances food production but also reinforces food security for the nation.

Minister Kyari’s visits also encompassed key facilities such as the National Wheat Council Warehouses in Sharada, AA Albasu Grains Company, and Alyumna Seeds Production Company. These visits underscore the government’s unwavering commitment to revitalizing the wheat farming sector and supporting local agriculture.

The Federal Government’s subsidy for wheat farmers represents a substantial step towards achieving food security and self-sufficiency, underscoring Nigeria’s dedication to bolstering agricultural production.
