Federal Ministry Opens Applications for Data Protection Officer Training for 5,000 Nigerian Youths

The Federal Ministry of Youth Development has officially opened the application portal for the Youth Development Programme (YDPAT), a government-backed initiative aimed at equipping 5,000 Nigerian youths with the skills to become Certified Data Protection Officers.

This program is part of a nationwide effort to close the digital skills gap, strengthen data privacy, and prepare young Nigerians for careers in one of the world’s fastest-growing fields — data protection and cybersecurity.

A Pathway to Digital Career Opportunities

The Youth Development Programme for Aspiring Technologists (YDPAT) is designed to provide training in critical areas such as data privacy principles, cybersecurity basics, compliance standards, and risk management.

Participants who complete the program will receive globally recognized certification as Data Protection Officers, opening doors to employment opportunities both in Nigeria and abroad.

Why This Matters Now

As more Nigerian businesses, government agencies, and startups shift to digital operations, the demand for skilled data protection experts has surged. Organizations now require professionals who can ensure compliance with privacy laws, secure sensitive data, and maintain public trust in digital platforms.

By training 5,000 youths, the Federal Ministry of Youth Development aims to create a pool of certified data privacy specialists, reduce unemployment by connecting trained youths to the job market, and strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy and security infrastructure.
