The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the launch of a major innovation grant worth N50 million targeted at Nigerian students studying Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medical Sciences (STEEM). This funding program, officially named the Student Venture Capital Grant (S-VCG), is expected to commence by August 2025, and is aimed at promoting youth-led innovation and entrepreneurship within tertiary institutions.
Who Is Eligible for the FG STEEM Grant?
According to the Ministry of Education, only full-time undergraduate students in Nigerian universities and polytechnics will be eligible. However, applicants must be in their 300 level or above to qualify. The grant is designed to support students who are working on innovative projects that can solve real-world challenges.
Grant Amount and Support Package
Selected student innovators or groups could receive up to N50 million in funding. Beyond the financial support, the grant also includes mentorship and coaching from industry experts, business training sessions, startup incubation opportunities, and resources for building scalable businesses.
The initiative will be managed in partnership with the Bank of Industry (BoI) to ensure transparent fund disbursement and to monitor the progress of student ventures.

The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, described the initiative as a launchpad for bold student innovators who can shape Nigeria’s future. During the stakeholder meeting in Abuja, he emphasized the role of innovation in tackling issues like graduate unemployment, economic growth, and youth empowerment.
