FG Rolls Out N50,000 Monthly Support for Youths Under Internship Scheme

The Federal Government, through the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has launched a N50,000 monthly stipend initiative aimed at empowering Nigerian youths under its Youth Internship Scheme. This strategic program is designed to provide hands-on training and skill development for 10,000 selected participants.

A Competitive Selection Process

According to Mrs. Seledi-Thompson-Wakama, Director of Corporate Affairs at NDDC, the beneficiaries were chosen from an extensive pool of over 3.2 million applicants. This rigorous selection process ensures that the most deserving and promising young individuals receive the necessary support to enhance their professional skills and increase employability in Nigeria’s evolving job market.

A 12-Month Hands-On Training Program

The Youth Internship Scheme offers a structured, year-long training program designed to equip participants with relevant skills required for career growth and business development. This initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s vision of fostering youth empowerment and economic sustainability.

Commitment to Transparency and Governance

Thompson-Wakama emphasized the NDDC’s commitment to transparency by actively collecting and managing data on the qualifications and employment needs of the selected trainees. This data-driven approach ensures that the initiative effectively addresses skill gaps and enhances career opportunities for Nigerian youths.

In line with its efforts to enhance corporate governance, the NDDC has partnered with KPMG to develop a Governance Advisory Report. This report provides strategic recommendations aimed at improving operational efficiency and guiding the commission’s transition to a transformation-focused approach.

The director expressed appreciation to the youths for their patience during the selection process. She reiterated the Federal Government’s dedication to creating more opportunities that promote skill acquisition, self-reliance, and long-term economic development.
