The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), through the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), has begun the approval process for applicants under the Community Vocational Education and Training (CVET) program. This initiative offers a ₦30,000 monthly stipend to selected facilitators for a period of up to one year.
This move supports the government’s ongoing efforts to reduce youth unemployment and promote skill acquisition across the country.

What Is the CVET Program?
The CVET initiative is designed to empower young Nigerians by connecting them with skilled professionals and business owners who will serve as vocational trainers. These trainers will teach practical skills to youth apprentices directly at their business locations or workshops.
The program is part of the broader TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) strategy aimed at strengthening the workforce through hands-on skill development.
Approval and Verification Now Ongoing
Applicants who previously submitted their applications with valid Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) documentation are currently being contacted by NBTE representatives. This includes:
- Phone interviews and verification
- On-site visits to validate business operations
These steps are crucial for confirming eligibility and ensuring that business locations are well-equipped to serve as training centers.
Who Can Apply as a Trainer?
To qualify as a vocational trainer under the CVET program, you must:
- Own a business registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC)
- Be actively involved in a vocational trade or skill-based service
- Be willing to train youths at your business location
- Have completed the CVET application on the NBTE portal
Eligible business owners can also nominate up to five instructors to help train the assigned students.
Recognized Vocational Fields
The program accepts applications from trainers across multiple skill areas, including but not limited to:
- Tailoring and Fashion Design
- Welding and Metal Fabrication
- Hairdressing and Makeup
- Barbing and Grooming Services
These areas were selected based on demand and relevance in local communities.
Program Benefits for Facilitators
Approved facilitators will receive:
- A monthly stipend of ₦30,000
- Payment valid for up to 12 months
- An opportunity to contribute to national development through youth mentorship
- Recognition as part of a government-backed vocational training network
